MMHX's comments:
"The game works great straight out of the box, didn't even patch it yet. No graphical errors, only thing that complained was Windows Compatibility wizard.

SYSTEM: Win/XP SP2, AMD XP 2800, 512MB, GeForce FX 5600 Ultra, "

"Windows XP / Geforce 7900GT 256MB PCI-E / 2048MB DDR TWINMOS DUAL CHANNEL RAM / A8N-SLI

Game functions, until I try to start a new game.

"Direct3d device driver does not accurately report texture memory usage"

Adding safe_texture_manager to shock.cfg worked like a charm. Game was already patched when installed.

Had to turn off compatibility mode as suggested.

Much obliged.

"I have a Geforce 7600GT running on a Intel Dual Core E6400, and I can't get the game to run even with safe_texture_manager added, compatibility mode turned off, and the XP patch installed. I wonder if this is just a dual core problem, and hence if I am actually screwed with my config... (Win XP Service pack 2 with 1gig ram, if it makes a difference). Anyone manage to play this on a Dual Core?"

"Ok dude my system shock 2 doesnt work under 2gb ram, dual core 3ghz and an nvidia 8500gt BUT my friend with a lower model graphics card and the same other specs on his comp can play the game.

this is the trick he uses (it disables one of your cores from working on that particular program) this fixes the multiple core problem.

firstly, open up ss2 then press alt + tab to minimize. then go alt+ctrl+delete and go to task manager, then find the application in the pop-up window that says shock2.exe or similar. right click and choose set affinity, then in the new window that comes up click on core 1 etc and disable cores until only one box is left that is ticked. Then just close that window and start playing... (hope i helped) btw, YOU NEED TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU START THE GAME. "
