The game requires two Microsoft Application Compatibility fixes IgnoreLoadLibrary and Win98VersionLie otherwise the Video card selection dialog will not display and the game will be rendered in software only.
This can also be accomplished by running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 98 although that also applies another fifty-five fixes. More is not always better in the world of compatibility patches so a user may wish to apply only the ones needed.
I'd also suggest using dgvoodoo to emulate 3DFX video as it will allow the user to select a video mode other than the default of 640x480.
