How to Fix Battery Icon Missing on Taskbar or Power Button Setting Grayed out
By Timothy Tibbetts |
You may have found that your taskbar battery icon is gone, and if you found the setting to re-enable it, you discovered that your power button setting is grayed out, so you can't re-enable the icon. Both are easy to fix. Here's how.

1: Battery Icon Missing on Taskbar
Press the Windows Key + S and type in icons and click on Turn system icons on or off. You can also go to Settings, Personalization, Taskbar, Turn system icons on or off.
Scroll down and verify that Volume is on. If it is gray, then it is off. Press the toggle next to Off, and it will now say on and be blue.
If you find that the button is grayed out and you can't click it, as shown in the screenshot above, that's an easy fix as well.

2: Power Button Setting Grayed out
Press the Windows Key + X and click on Device Manager.
Expand batteries, and you should have two settings; Microsoft AS Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
We're going to disable, then enable two battery settings. Try the first method, and if that fails, try the second.
1: Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Disable. Now, right-click and select Enable. Reboot.
2: Right-click on Microsoft AS Adapter and select Disable. Now, right-click and select Enable. Reboot.
