a collection of hotfixes that may or may not go into the upcoming Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. This collection is of hotfixes not officially released to the public from Microsoft. The package, formally known at the Windows XP SP3 Preview Pack, contains hundreds of fixes that you would normally need to call Microsoft Support to obtain.
Designed for advanced Windows testers, developers, IT managers, and enthusiasts, this pack should make common problems much less of a pain. The Hotfix strongly advices that you only install the hotfixes that you need in this package. Don't install every one of them as system instability may occur.
We decided on the name change for a number of reasons, all of which should make sense to everyone:
- We couldn't promise that these fixes would be in SP3
- We got a lot of bad press for releasing it under the SP3 name
- We feel the title "Unofficial" will keep the standard users away from installing it
- We wanted to let people know where it came from in the title
- We wanted to bring home the fact that it's just a collection of hotfixes, that's all
