How often have you wanted to just rip the Caps Lock key off your keyboard or stuff a wad of paper underneath it to hardware disable it? A friend of mine actually did this to keep himself for accidentally laUNCHING INTO A STREAM OF CAPITAL LETTERS.

Being a programmer I always thought the cool way to fix this problem would be to disable it through software. So one day when I had some free time I sat down to write an application that would do just this. My goal was to make it have as low overhead as possible in terms of both memory and CPU usage (see the technical discussion below for more info). After double the time I thought it would take (it took me two days instead of just one), I had something that worked and was low enough overhead that I was satisfied.
