ShellFolderFix is the solution to Windows not remembering their size and position and includes additional tweaks and shell enhancements.
All software has annoyances and limitations, and your operating system does as well. Our number one issue is Windows not remembering where we left a program open. In our case, we have a wide monitor and split the web browser and email on the screen, but every time we close them, they return to where they were initially. This continues with other frequently used apps like Windows Explorer. Very annoying.
Enter ShellFolderFix, which will remember exactly the size and position of your Windows.
The author didn’t stop there. If you want to do some additional tweaking, that is provided. It might be a bit confusing for some users but simply line your mouse cursor over any text for balloon tips. You might also consider unchecking the “Show tray icon” options it’s unnecessary unless you constantly want to change your folder settings.
Additional options to suit your needs are split into two tabs, general and advanced. It even includes a built-in updater to check for the latest version.
General:
disable flashing folder window tiles
Update window for search results
Enable basic theme redraw fix
Show window title icons under Aero
Advanced:
Show “Folder List” command in context menu
Show “Save Database Now command in context menu
Enable control key modifier for “stealth” close
Disable State Recording options.
This was written for Windows 7 but tested by us under Windows 10. The zip contains 3 files - ShellFolderFix32.zip for 32-bit systems, ShellFolderFix64.zip for 64-bit systems. Both of these are portable. Just extract and run. If you want to install the program then you will want to click on ShellFolderFixSetup.exe.
On some things, like Windows Explorer, we noticed that it would open where it wants then snap to where it left it last. It’s a tad annoying but it gets the job done. The biggest issue is that we use email and a web browser sharing the screen half and half and it is unable to remember Chrome and Thunderbird positions so odds are this will only work for Windows applications.

Editor's Note:
ShellFolderFix has no installer but it also has no uninstaller. It loads in your startup so you can’t delete it without disabling it from starting with your computer. You can use a program like CCleaner to disable it from starup, reboot and then delete ShellFolderFixUI.exe and ShellFolderFixUI.dll wherever you’re running it from.
