These 2 Microsoft tools will help you troubleshoot and correct issues relating to Windows updates.

The Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool will check your Windows Updates for a problem (Windows Update error 80070490) and offer to download the latest hotfix to address your problem. Often times Security Center is disabled which is a good indicator that you’re infected or were.

Tim ran into this scenario and for him Tweaking.com - Windows Repair came to the rescue, but if you want to try and only fix the issue with Windows Updates failing then this is worth a shot.

This is most commonly seen on Windows 7 and Vista. We don't recommend trying this on other operating systems.
