Cybercriminals know a good thing when they find it as seen in the increase in domains specific for ransomware. In just one quarter, the amount of domains for ransomware has increase by 3,500%.
According to the new report by Infoblox: "What has changed ... over the past quarter or two is a shift from small-money heists targeting consumers to larger, more profitable attacks on commercial entities."
The biggest culprit is Locky. That piece of ransomware was responsible for a costly attack on a Los Angeles hospital.
However, exploit kits still account for the majority of domains. Angler remains the top dog of the exploit kits (for seven quarters running).
The criminals have moved their infrastructure, moving their domains out of Germany and into Portugal, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Iceland, and the Russian Federation, which accounts for 50% of all malicious infrastructure.
