A useful smartphone charge in your pants

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 06/19/2014 08:41 AM [ comments Comments ]

A British designer has come up with an interesting way to charge up your smartphone on the fly - Wireless charging pants; developed with the Nokia DC-50 wireless charging plate specifically in mind. Best of all, they will have you being the most stylish and fully charged geek out there.

According to the press release on Nokia.com, A. Sauvage, has created the first ever pair of wireless charging trousers for London Collections dubbed "Modern Man." The technology (known as inductive charging) comes from the new Nokia DC-50 wireless charging plate for Lumia smartphones. These smart trousers are the perfect way to keep your battery full and yourself in style.

Known for creating under-stated luxury with a no-nonsense approach to contemporary tailoring, A. Sauvage’s collaboration focuses on the ‘Modern Man’ of 2014, making it the perfect collection for wearable technology.

What’s more, you’ll actually be able to buy it; this unique piece will be available for pre-order on the Amazon online store soon.

Adam Johnson, Marketing Director for Microsoft Mobile (UK and Ireland), commented:

“We have a proud history of working within fashion, having previously collaborated with Bruce Weber and David Bailey, as well as recent partnerships at New York and London Fashion Week.

Continuing this theme, we are excited to work alongside a talented designer such as A. Sauvage. As well as having the vision to co-create these amazing wireless charging trousers, his style complements the cutting-edge design of the new Lumia 930 smartphone perfectly.”

Woven into the front pocket is the new Nokia DC-50 wireless charging plate, which grants the wearer the ability to charge a phone by simply placing it into the pocket without the worry of having to plug it in, Johnson explained to ABC. This technology has inductive charging, which uses an electromagnetic field to transfer electricity between two objects -- in this case, the pants pocket and your phone. The wireless charger can be charged with a standard Micro USB cable, holding the charge until the pants are activated.

The pants will cost "over $340" and will be available to pre-order through Amazon soon.

The funniest and slightly scary comment I saw relating to this was: "no hands, no cables, no testicles... CANCER PANTS!"
