Martavious Banks Keys, aka Cheese, is sitting in jail on charges of sex trafficking.
Magistrate Judge Irma Ramirez ordered Keys to unlock his iPhone. However, Keys attorney has been able to block the order so far on constitutional grounds. His attorney says that forcing Keys to unlock his phone violates his constitutional rights.
The judge has ordered Keys to provide a finger print to unlock the phone, but it is not clear as yet if the government has found an alternative way to unlock the phone.
Keys has not yet been charged with any crime. A Federal Judge will hear the case in September. Keys was indicted June 7th.
Legal precedence is rather fuzzy on this topic. There have been few cases where biometric disclosure or the revealing of a password has been applied.
