Acxiom, one of the nations biggest vendor of personal information, has created a website where users can check the information that Acxiom has collected on them. The site is: AboutTheData.com. Americans can look up and correct data themselves, but only after a detailed sign-on process whose collection includes the last four digits of their social security number.
That data has now sparked controversy for a different reason: it's rubbish.
As Forbes reports, the data can run the gamut from the minor to the hilarious.
If you don't want to participate in their marketing, you can opt out. This will result in the user receiving "generic" advertising.
If you are lucky, as this writer was, they may not have any info on you at all.
