A man charged with an ATM burglary has one of the most interesting names ever; the man was arrested after investigators tied his DNA to the crime.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards told Action News17 that 22 year old Akeem Arsenio Hall Banks of Perry Lane in Hammond, LA., was charged this afternoon from the ATM Burglary which occurred at Chuck’s Quick Stop in Pumpkin Center on June 26, 2013.
Through a joint investigation between the sheriff’s office, HPD and the LSP, detectives were able to connect Banks through DNA to the burglary. Banks first became a suspect as the result of a Crime Stoppers tip received through the Hammond Police Department. Banks was interviewed and willfully submitted a DNA sample.
During the same time frame, the vehicle (a sliver mini-van) which was stolen and used to commit the burglary was being processed at the LSP Crime Lab for evidence. As luck would have it, yesterday afternoon the TPSO was advised that Banks’s DNA positively matched the DNA collected from the mini-van. Immediately a warrant was issued for Banks’s arrest.
In the early morning hours of July 31, 2013, Banks was taken into custody without incident from a residence in Amite, LA. Banks has been charged with possession of stolen property and with the burglary of a business.
This investigation is highly active and additional charges / arrest is believed to be forthcoming. Detectives from all agencies are working together to identify the additional suspects and link them to the multiple ATM burglaries.
His parents must have loved 'Coming to America' which of course stars Eddie Murphy as 'Akeem' and Arsenio Hall as 'Simmi' - as if that isn't enough of a famous reference his last name is Banks ala Fresh Prince of Bel Air; he then lives on Perry lane which might be stretch; but I will throw Tyler Perry in there as well.
