Password management company Thycotic decided to do an unofficial survey of self-proclaimed hackers at the recent Black Hat USA 2014 to understand these cyber masterminds better.

1) 18 percent of the hackers surveyed claimed that financial gain was a direct motivation.
2) over half said that they were simply bored and searching for thrills.
3) over 99 percent of the hackers confirmed that simple hacking tactics like phishing are still effective.
4) 86 percent of hackers don't think they'll suffer any consequences for their hactivities.
5) Eighty-eight percent of the respondents think their own personal information is at risk.
