SLocker, an Android ransomware family, has seen a six-fold increase in the number of new versions over the past six months.
SLocker does what most ransomware malware does....it encrypts images, documents, and videos, as well as blocks access to the device before demanding payment to unlock the phone.
However, the new strains have morphed into more than just locking the device. It now can take over administrative rights and control the device, including its microphone, speakers, and the camera.
This malware does not bode well for business professional in that it could be used to listen in on closed-door meetings and broadcast highly sensitive information.
It's been estimated that victims of the SLocker ransomware have paid out $10 million to have their devices unlocked.
