Deric Lostutter, the 26-year-old Anonymous hacker that leaked some of the crucial evidence that led to the successful convictions against 2 of the Steubenville, OH., rapists - will likely spend more time in prison than the animals he helped expose. Currently Lostutter is awaiting his indictment to be handed down from a federal grand jury.
The FBI showed their thanks to the hacktivist by raiding his home; which eventually led to Lostutter admitting that he was responsible for the Anonymous video that initiated the raid.
According to the article from the Political Blind Spot, Lostutter is now facing ten years behind bars if indicted for obtaining tweets and social media posts which revealed the details of the rape as well as for threatening action against the Steubenville rapists and school officials who helped to cover up the crime. Lostutter posted the video to the Steubenville High School football team website, bringing national attention to the case and the cover-up.
One of the rapists, Ma’Lik Richomond, 16, has just been released from juvenile detention -- 2 months early for good behavior.
Richmond was given Ohio's second-toughest classification, meaning he has to register as a sex offender every six months for 20 years after his release. Unlike adult sex offenders, his name will not be included on publicly accessible websites, and he can request to have the classification removed later based on his rehabilitation, this according to WRTF's report.
Lotstutter will be undoubtedly be given the maximum sentence by the government, regardless of the fact that he exposed the rapists along with the school officials that covered for them, and since his indictment will be federal, his ultimate conviction will result in a lifetime label of 'felon'.
Does the means justify the end in this case?
