The French Ministry of Defense was hacked by Anonymous in what they claimed was in protest of Frances' foreign arms trading.
Anonymous revealed that once the database was leaked, the site was brought down and its users were then greeted by a message that read, "Our web portal will be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance actions.”
Leaked information included information on army suppliers and partners, FTP client usernames, website accounts, PHP sessions and some server usernames that included cleartext passwords. The hackers also provided screenshots of the websites admin panel, calling it archaic.
Anonymous justified their actions by showing press releases that show the government was selling arms to Saudi Arabia, an article about France buying spying and surveillance tools from Italian firm The Hacking Team, and a report from 2012 by Amnesty International that France is the second largest arms dealer in the world.
