Anonymous, the hactivist collective, has taken out the websites and Twitter accounts of white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan.
The hacking follows from a threat by the Klan against protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. Tensions are high in that town because of the anticipated ruling against police officer Darren Wilson (who is white) and is accused of shooting an unarmed black teenager.
Anonymous has also released the personal info of Klan members. They also took over the twitter accounts of Klan members including @KuKluxKlanUSA and @YourKKKCentral as well as launching packet floods that took sites including kkk.com and traditionalistamericanknights.com offline.
The @KuKluxKlanUSA account taunted the hacktivists with messages such as: “Anonymous is nothing but a bunch of wannabes. They won’t take any action. We will not be brought down by some low-lives behind a screen.”
The recent dust up follows the Klan's distribution of flyers threatening "lethal" force against protestors in Ferguson.
The @KuKluxKlanUSA account remains under Anonymous control as of Tuesday lunchtime.
