Anonymous Internet Blackout Underway - Sort Of

Anonymous has begun their protest of CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) by asking websites to go black in protest.

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) is a proposed law in the United States which would allow for the sharing of Internet traffic information between the U.S. government and technology and manufacturing companies. The stated aim of the bill is to help the U.S government investigate cyber threats and ensure the security of networks against cyberattacks.

We would like to go black ourselves but we really can’t afford, as a small independent website, to go black for a day but we can say that this law appears to be another step in ending what little privacy you have.

Anonymous claims 394 websites are participating but many of the 394 websites listed appear to be very small websites and many are personal pages, not business pages so we don’t see anyone really being affected by this blackout. Many of the websites that are not related to hacking or fans of Anonymous also appear to have not gone black as promised. Some, like this jewelry website says they are going black but they only pasted the statement on their website and you can still shop on the left navigation bar. Going black means shutting down your website entirely. They aren’t the only ones who didn’t truly “go black” with many leaving their navigation bars and social links up.

Then a few links are peoples profile pages on forums so they don’t count. Not sure if a lot of the subdomains should count like .tumbler, .blogspot, etc. 394 seems like a puffed up number but we didn’t expect this to go over huge anyway.

Still, we can do our part and point you to http://anonyops.com/cispablackout/othersites.php to learn more about CISPA.
