Anonymous looks to start OpIsrael attack this week

Anonymous is looking to facilitate a DDoS attack like the very recent one on Spamhaus, and disrupt as many sites as possible.

They claim that the attack will take place Sunday, April 7. which is when Israel begins Holocaust Remembrance which certainly would lead one to believe that the date was not arbitrary.

Israeli internet security specialists have expressed concern that the attack might also include planted trojan horses that would further the reach of the attack by infecting web users. A smart thing for the web using population to do would be to not access sites that have been potentially targeted allowing them to correct any issues that might be happening.

There have been other claims made by the group, such as gaining access to Mossad and exposing email and home addresses of IDF officials, and Mossad agents. The claim is that 30,000 data records have been taken and that they will gradually release that information to the public. This takes the hacking to a new level in my opinion, since the release of this information (if they have it) could result in the death of agents.

The Times of Israel reports that the first OpIsrael cyber-attacks were launched by the Anonymous hacktivist group during Israel’s November operation Pillar of Defense against terrorists in the Gaza Strip. Anonymous-affiliated hackers attacked over 700 Israeli websites, with Israel deflecting 44 million cyber-attacks on government websites.

The effort on this upcoming attack by all accounts points to it being much bigger than the November attack, and seemingly more hackers are signing on to help. On the #OpIsrael Twitter feed they are vowing to wipe Israel off the internet.
