Anthem customers now targeted with phishing scam

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 02/06/2015 02:01 PM [ comments Comments ]

As if the massive data breach which health insurer Anthem's customers suffered wasn't enough, now some of those customers are said to have been targeted with phishing emails.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is issuing a warning about a scam email campaign targeting current and former Anthem members.

“These scams, designed to capture personal information (known as “phishing”) are designed to appear as if they are from Anthem and the emails include a “click here” link for credit monitoring. These emails are NOT from Anthem.”

This is the perfect storm for these cyber criminals as Anthem has said they will be contacting customers if their information had been accessed, so receiving an email in this context may be more likely to slip by.

As with any type of email asking you to click a link - just don't. Best bet in this case is to contact the company direct at 1-877-263-7995 with any questions or concerns they may have.
