With PC sales in the third quarter topping 17.3 million devices, Apple was beating Asus to take the No. 5 slot for worldwide PC shipments.
The rankings saw Lenovo at No.1 with 15.7 million PCs shipped globally and 20 percent of the market. Next came HP with 14.7 million shipped and 18.8 percent of the market. Dell was at 10.4 million and 13.3 percent. Acer squeaked past Apple for the No. 4 spot, with 6.6 million PCs shipped.
Jay Chou, Senior Research Analyst of Worldwide PC Trackers, said in a statement: "Although shipments did not decline as much as feared, these preliminary results still show that 3Q14 was one of the weaker calendar third quarters on record in terms of sequential growth. The third quarter has historically been driven by back-to-school sales and renewed business purchasing, which were weaker than normal this year. The current growth of lower-priced systems, while encouraging in the short run, brings concern for the long term viability of vendors to adequately remain in the PC space."
