Apply here: FBI needs pot smoking hackers

The FBI is entertaining the idea of relaxing the marijuana use policy for applicants in an effort to attract a younger more knowledgeable techie applicant pool to combat cyber crime. The current policy guidelines would ban you from employment if you smoked pot within the last three years - quite an issue when most of the hackers they wish to attract can't even make it through the previous nights 'GTA' without sparking up, this is according to the FBI that is.

FBI Director James B. Comey said Monday that if the FBI hopes to continue to keep pace with cyber criminals, the organization may have to loosen up its no-tolerance policy for hiring those who like to smoke marijuana, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Congress has authorized the FBI to add 2,000 personnel to its rolls this year, and many of those new recruits will be assigned to tackle cyber crimes, a growing priority for the agency. And that’s a problem, Mr. Comey told the White Collar Crime Institute, an annual conference held at the New York City Bar Association in Manhattan. A lot of the nation’s top computer programmers and hacking gurus are also fond of marijuana.

“I have to hire a great work force to compete with those cyber criminals and some of those kids want to smoke weed on the way to the interview,” Mr. Comey said.

Gizmodo ask if this means the FBI is looking to hire stoners? No, probably not. It does look like our friends in federal law enforcement are warming up to the idea of hiring people that like to take part in a fun activity that's legal in two states and practically legal in many more, though. In fact, Comey even told a member of the audience that his friend "should go ahead and apply," even if he's worried about the policy. No way will that be used against you in a court of law.... ;)
