Aquamail: Free alternative email program for Android

One of my single biggest gripes with any mobile device is the lack of decent email support. For whatever reason, it seems that aside from Blackberry, no one is doing it right. Then again, I have not seen how it works on the new Blackberry devices. Every portable operating system should include a functional email app. The included Android app isn’t the worst I have seen but most people are looking for a better solution like Thunderbird, which does not exist of course.

So, I began looking for a replacement and found a lot of websites suggesting a few that they think are the best. Not surprisingly, none of those are perfect either. One way or another, they each come with an annoyance you get used to depending on your needs.

I found AquaMail to be the best overall in the free category. Here is what they promise:

Easy automatic setup for popular email services (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and more).
Support for many other email services via standard Internet email protocols: IMAP, POP3, SMTP. This includes many corporate email servers, such as Lotus Notes and Exchange, provided that the administrators enabled IMAP/SMTP (no support for ActiveSync or EWS).
Push mail (IMAP IDLE, instant incoming email delivery) for those servers that support it (Gmail, GMX and more).
Plays well with other email programs that you may be using to access your IMAP mailbox. Uses existing folder structure, can synchronize drafts, sent, and deleted messages.
Can save attachments on the memory card.
Widgets (message counts, message list).
Message auto-fit (like in Gmail) on Android 4.0 and above.
Integration with Tasker (change settings, trigger mail check).
Integration with Light Flow, Enhanced SMS & Caller ID, Cloud Print, Apex Launcher Pro, Nova Launcher / Tesla Unread, Executive Assistant.
Lots of settings to configure the application just the way *you* would like. Separate settings for WiFi and mobile connections.
This is the Lite version, which is limited to two accounts, no identities, and adds a promo signature to all outgoing messages with a link to the program's web site.
You can add more than two accounts, use identites, and remove the signature by purchasing the Pro key here on Market at any time.

My favorite feature, since the email I use gets little mail, is email in notifications. I can delete emails right from the notification without opening the program. Setup was pretty easy but that always varies depending on what email you use.

There are some screenshots below and if you want to give it a try, head to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kman.AquaMail&hl=en
