How much can an ethical hacker earn? Listen to Matt Comyns, who recruits for high-level cybersecurity positions at the New York-based headhunting firm Russell Reynolds Associates.
“I’m hearing even very qualified computer science degree folks coming straight out of respectable technical schools getting paid $70,000 right out of the gate. Everybody’s putting a premium on these folks because they’re not so easy to find. They need to be super technical. They need to have a certain sort of DNA to be effective ethical hackers.”
The pay scale for ethical hackers, according to the compensation website PayScale.com, is a starting salary of $70,791 which could go as high as $130,000 for security engineers. Chief information security officers can earn as much as $242,000 or more.
The demand is growing both in the private sector and the government sector. The FBI is recruiting. The NSA is also recruiting. New graduates looking for jobs may be better off getting into hacking.
