Automotive Industry Bands Together to Thwart Hacking

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 08/31/2015 08:42 AM [ comments Comments ]

The automotive industry is coming together in an effort to mitigate hacking of car computer systems.

Both the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of Global Automakers are talking about establishing a industry-wide Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) intended to share best practices in mitigating automotive cybersecurity threats.

While automotive hacking has not become main stream yet and has only been performed by some security expert, there is concern in the industry that it will become a serious threat when hackers figure out a way to monetize it.

Every major car manufacturer will participate in the ISAC. It will eventually also consist of suppliers and telecommunications companies. The ISAC is expected to have a dedicated staff of analysts to keep tabs on threats and distribute information.
