The largest vendor of security software, Avast, has announced the acquisition of privately owned UK-based Piriform.
Piriform is best known as the creators of such apps as CCleaner, Recuva, Speccy, and Defraggler. The company was founded in 2004 and has over 130 million users on desktop and over 15 million users on mobile.
Its most popular app is CCleaner with over two billion downloads and 23 million downloads per month.
As of June 2017, Avast was top of the heap with a market share of 20.48%. In July of 2016, Avast purchased AVG for a price of $1.3 billion.
CCleaner users are hoping that Avast will drop the toolbars that come bundled with the app.
No financial information was released with the announcement.
