Before you click a charity link - think

With the events in Boston still fresh and raw, I would like to point out a very important and sad fact; bad people will use this event to try and corrupt your system, or scam you out of money.

Many online charities, pictures, and videos are being shared around the net like a rampant wildfire, while some are legit and truly set up to help with information, donations and the like, others are more sinister in design. They look to compromise your computer by possibly installing some type of malware, while others are set up to just get you to donate your hard earned cash to a criminal, who has no intention of forwarding said cash to any charity other than his own.

Silicon Angle mentions Domains including bostonexplosion.com, bostonmarathonvictimfund.com and bostonrelief2013.com were among over 125 new websites that popped up in the hours after MondayÂ’s bombing, according to the website The Domains, which lists all the new domains. Of these, at least TWENTY of them appeared within TEN MINUTES of the bombs going off, while the rest were added over the next few hours.

Be vigilant, pay attention to where the link points to, and of course you can always check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure the charity is above board, and if all else fails use 'trusted' sources only.
