Beware of 'Malaysia flight MH370 found' Facebook videos, contains malware

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 03/14/2014 08:37 AM [ comments Comments ]

A new malware scam is currently be spread around Facebook using the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 as the bait. The link comes through claiming that the lost plane has been found and invites users to view the video of the discovery - clicking the video redirects you to malicious sites.

As with any event that gains media notoriety, spammers will use the hype to their nefarious advantage. This one is out there in several forms - but the hook is the same on all - the airliner has been found - possibly with passengers still alive.

The hackers are redirecting Facebook users to the malicious websites using a fake Facebook post, claims that missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200 aircraft has been found in the Bermuda Triangle with its passengers still alive and invites users to click a link to view breaking news video footage, this according to the post from The Hacker News.

When the user clicks to watch the video they are prompted with the following message that says: the user should share it before watching. The share from you adds legitimacy, which in turn gets your friends to click and share the link as well - adding fuel to the fire.

If you looked at it - delete the post, warn your friends and report it as spam!
