Boston Dynamics unleashes free range "WildCat" robot (VIDEO)

You might recall our previous stories on BigDog, PetMan and ATLAS, they were all just as frightening as they were impressive. The newest release from Boston Dynamics sheds the tether that kept the metal beasts at bay allowing it to fully stalk you (albeit not in a very stealthy manner; since it sounds like gas powered RC B-52).

Gizmodo says that this robot is based on the same design as Cheetah, but doesn't have the tethered power cable of its predecessor; instead, it has a large—and quite loud motor attached to it.

That extra weight does means it can't quite match the pace — Cheetah can reach 28mph, while WildCat can only manage 16mph. But, hey, given that's faster than most of us can run, it's not too bad. And remember, WildCat can keep up that speed for as long as the motor runs, which humans definitely can't.

Take a gander at the video and welcome our new extremely loud robotic overlord!
