Bubl 360 Degree Camera Makes Panoramas Look Lame

Think those panoramas you shoot with your iPhone are cool? Not anymore. The Bubl camera, based out of Toronto (yes, they invent stuff in Canada), has just launched a portable 360-degree camera that can take pictures, video, and even stream live video in 360 degrees.
“It all began five years ago,” says Sean Ramsay, founder of Bubl “At the time, Google was using spherical camera technology for mapping. I realized that if we could make this technology portable and affordable for everybody, we could change the way we see the world.”
Bublcam is only about the size of a baseball, so it can be with you on the go. It combines 4 independent lenses in a patent-pending tetrahedral design. The content from each of the four lenses overlaps the adjoining one, so there are zero blind spots. Bubl software then stitches the footage into sphere, seamlessly blending the photos and videos together in real-time.
It might not be a direct Go-Pro replacement, because lets be honest, sometimes you just need that classic straight-on shot, but I sure would rather capture my extreme sports in 360.
Bubl is on Kickstarter trying to raise funding for their launch. Actually, they already blew past their $100,000 goal and are not past their 1st stretch goal of $250,000. There is one more stretch goal at $300,000 that will enable users to create HDR photos on the Bubl. Be a Bubl backer here!
The Bublcam is capable of recording video at 1080p at 15fps and 720p at 30fps and captures photos at 14 mega pixels. The media can be stored to an internal Micro SD Card or uploaded directly to a users cloud storage provider like Drop Box, Google Drive, and Younity. Don’t forget the onboard WiFi, too!
Developers, don’t fear, Bubl will be realizing a full open source API and SDK for the development of software to use with the camera. This is “coming soon”, though.
