This will be the first partial lunar eclipse that we will be experiencing this year. Only a tiny sliver of the Moon will be covered by the Earth's shadow at maximum eclipse, but the entire northern half of the Moon will be darkened from being inside the penumbral shadow.

Another point that makes this stand out from other partial lunar eclipses is that this one will occur during the full moon phase, which should provide a really spectacular view.


This event will not be visible for us here in the States but you can watch it live below. Note that there is a different video available until 3:00 PM EST and after that it will eventually be a bad link.
