This has to be one of the coolest working replicas I have seen in a while; Mike McMaster built it in his California workshop using pretty much all one off handmade parts.
The Wall-E builders group as they dubbed themselves had some unique challenges when they decided to begin this build seeing as the movie hadn't even been released. One of the biggest challenges was they did not have any real reference material other than promotional pictures to work with.
As the build progressed and the movie was released another issue came to light; the movie Wall-E is CGI and not a physical object like R2-D2 in Star Wars, this made scale extremely difficult to get a handle on. McMaster points out in the video that the issue was compounded with that fact that during the movie Wall-E's scale changes.
To overcome this problem McMaster used objects with known sizes; like the Rubik's Cube that Wall-E holds in the movie as reference points to help him get the size right. After watching the video you will see that he did get it right indeed, only disappointment that I can see is Wall-E is unable to compact trash....yet.
