Romanian police were busy this week arresting 24 members of a card skimming scheme and have identified an additional 47 suspects.
Working with Europol, authorities searched 18 houses and seized electronic devices, computers, mobile phones, equipment used to make card skimming devices and around €50,000 in cash.
Europol said the gang had installed card skimming devices at several ATM's and self-service gas stations in order to steal the data off the cards.
The data was then used to produce cloned cards which were used to withdraw funds from machines in Nepal, the Philippines, Taiwan and the US.
The members of the gang were suspected of establishing or supporting an organized criminal group, illegal software and hardware operations, payment card falsification, fraudulent financial transactions and money laundering.
The U.S. has been slow to adopt Chip and PIN technology.
