Sohu, one of China’s largest providers of online videos, stated the Chinese regulators have stepped in and pulled the plug on four of the US videos including: “The Good Wife”, “NCIS” and “The Practice,” and “The Big Bang Theory”.
Sohu CEO Charles Zhang said: “Of course, I cannot comment on what happened.”
The sites are spending millions to legally offer hit U.S. TV shows as a way to draw in Chinese consumers.
It is not known why those shows were targeted. Video sites are still broadcasting, among others: “House of Cards” and “The Walking Dead”.
China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television could not be reached for comment.
