Chinese Take Down Individuals Behind Fireball Malware

Eleven individuals linked to the Fireball malware were arrested by Chinese authorities.
Authorities were able to nab the suspects as a result of a tip supplied by someone using the online name of "Zhang Ming.”
Researcher Graham Cluley found that the malware is capable of hijacking browsers and allowing any code to be run on an infected machine.
It's been estimated that the malware has infected 250 million users, gained a foothold on one out of every five corporate networks, and generated at least 80 million yuan in 2016.
Believing that the malware came from the Chinese digital marketing agency Rafotech, confirming that posit, and raided the company arresting 11 individuals.
Researchers warn that users should be cautious about where they download freeware by making sure it is coming from a reliable developer.
Microsoft stated that they felt the threat was overblown.
