Classic Shell No Longer Developed - Source Code Released

The creator of the popular Classic Shell has announced that development has ceased and the source code is available for anyone who might want to carry it forward.

The creator of the popular Classic Shell has announced that development has ceased and the source code is available for anyone who might want to carry it forward.

Classic Shell is a free app for improving your productivity by enhancing the overall usability of Windows via a highly customizable start menu.

The reasons given were ones we hear all the time; a lack of time and Windows 10 changing too frequently causing the program to no longer work correctly. That said, many authors just abandon their software, but in this case, he had the good sense to release the source code.

For those who don't know, when the source code is released, the program becomes Open Source. Open Source is the same as freeware except anyone can take the code and "fork" the application or build it themselves any way they like.

Because of this, we have zipped up the main application with the source code. While this makes for a large download, we wanted to be able to offer the source code for anyone interested.

You can download it at http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/classic_shell.html or by clicking the screenshot below.
