Police were hot on the trail of the pastry truck thief through southeastern Portland, OR., the rightful driver of the truck left it unlocked with the keys inside.
Peter Johansen, 34, saw the opportunity to have at the sweet ride and hopped in. According to Fox 12, as a Portland police officer was taking the incident report, another officer spotted the stolen van heading east on Powell Boulevard across the river.
The officer activated his overhead lights as he positioned his patrol car behind the van, but the driver - later identified as 34-year-old Peter Johansen - didn't stop and led the officer on a chase.
Johansen did eventually pull over and quickly put his hands out the window and dropped a pastry from his grubby hands, according to police. Perhaps he ran out of coffee?
He was arrested without further incident - no reports on if the donuts ever made it into evidence.
