Crawfish bandit unable to blow-start getaway car (MUGSHOT)

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 08/17/2013 06:29 AM [ comments Comments ]

A man who stole several bags of peeled crawfish tails attempted to flee the scene but became so winded that when he arrived at his getaway car he was unable to start it; due to the fact that the vehicle was equipped with an interlock device that requires you to blow before the car will start. That blows.

WML reports that the out of shape crawfish bandit apparently didn’t think his entire cunning plan through.

According to Thibodaux Chief of Police Scott Silverii, 48-year-old Eric Williams entered a grocery store in the 200 block of North Canal Boulevard, then grabbed one or more bags of peeled crawfish tails.

Store employees say the suspect ran from the store with the bagged crawfish tails. However, witnesses told police the suspect “was so winded from running that he struggled to blow into his ignition interlock device to start his vehicle.”

Adding insult to injury, police say employees in the store “stood by taking pictures, inviting him to give up and come back inside. After many huffs and puffs, Williams was able to start the vehicle and flee the scene.”

Investigators say police found Williams at his home not long after the alleged crawfish heist. When confronted, Williams allegedly claimed he had been at work until 4:30 p.m. A press release says, “Police placed Williams under arrest, after telling him it was not yet 4:30.”
