On the lam from the police? Call Lyft for a ride.
That's what a criminal did after he and his cohorts stabbed to death Albert DeMagnus, CEO of an IT business named Computer Management Services, during a home invasion. After killing DeMagnus, they demanded cash and valuables.
Two of the criminals took the family Lexus. The third got away in the car they drove to the scene. Police took chase of the two in the Lexus and after reaching speeds of 130 mph, the criminals crashed. After the crash, they fled on foot.
One of the two decided it would be good to get new wheels. So he called for a Lyft. Bad move. By that point in time, the police had stablished a perimeter around the suspects. The Lyft driver had to stop at a checkpoint. Amazingly enough, the Lyft car was the same make and model as one of the policeman’s car.
The Lyft driver gave the police the pickup point, so three cops piled into their car and headed for the rendezvous.
When they arrived, the suspect started walking to the car and was about to open the door when the police jumped out and, after a 100 yard chase, arrested him.
Police have charged Jeffrey Lee Wallace, 22, of Atlanta, and Kavion Wyzeenski Tookes, 21, of Decatur and are still hunting the third suspect.
