The AP reported yesterday that customers, banks and credit unions have filed a total of eight lawsuits against Arby's for the breach that occurred in February that affected a total of 1,000 locations.
Customers Jacqueline and Joseph Weiss, a married couple in Glastonbury Connecticut, have filed suit alleging that the breach resulted in thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges to their Visa card.
Arby's released a statement on Monday saying the charges "are without merit and intend to vigorously defend against them."
Since February, eight credit unions and banks have also filed suit against Arby's with similar claims against the sandwich shop.
Arby's acknowledged that their payment card system had been breached. However, they made this statement: “Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. (ARG) was recently provided with information that prompted it to launch an investigation of its payment card systems. Upon learning of the incident, ARG immediately notified law enforcement and enlisted the expertise of leading security experts, including Mandiant."
