A Nottinghamshire, UK, man decided to play a prank on his niece for her birthday, the plan was to scare the teen when she came to his home to have her birthday cake last Thursday. The joke wound up being on him as a passerby for the 'prop' and called police.
The Mirror reports that the 34-year-old, who designs props for theatre groups, explained he had made the prosthetic for a joke at his niece’s 15th birthday party.
After successfully frightening the teenager, the family went inside – leaving the hand and finger on the pathway. Their party came to an abrupt halt when residents in Hyson Green, Nottingham, were heard screaming in terror.
Dad-of-two Patrick said: “I like to make horror movie props and have been making prosthetics for three years now. "This one was made out of liquid latex. When I heard screams, I went outside. People were looking at me like I’d committed a murder.”
Police officers confronted Patrick about the severed hand. They didn’t arrest him but did bag up the hand as evidence and confiscated it.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman said the officers eventually saw the funny side. She said: "When officers arrived at the scene, a man, who was understandably red-faced, told us he was responsible for the practical joke.
It is just a case of an innocent prank getting out of hand!
