Damage From Spear Phishing Attack Put at $1.6 Million

According to recent surveys, spear phishing attacks cost companies $1.6 million per incident.
Cloudmark and Vanson Bourne took into account data from 300 companies, 200 from the US and 100 from the UK. Spear phishing is still considered the most harmful attack to most businesses.
The survey also revealed that most spear phishing attacks come in 90% of the time via email, 48% of the time via smartphones, and in 40% of the cases via social media accounts. Targets are IT staff (43%), sales staff (29%), the company's CEO (27%), and its CFO (17%).
Companies are trying to combat the influx by implementing protection against spear phishing attempts, and even better, 56% conducted staff training on the matter of spear phishing.
A successful spear phishing attack can harm companies financial losses 32%, 29% reported damage to their company's reputation while 27% felt damage to their brand.
