Nine Canadian men were arrested in what authorities are calling a romance fraud ring.
In all, victims were taken for $1.5 million.
The nine men have a total of 40 charges filed against them. They allegedly created fake dating profiles and then used them to trick women into trusting them. The men would advance the relationship quickly, gaining the victims trust and then ask for money.
The case was instigated by one woman, but as the case progressed, six more women stepped forward. Others also came forward, but did not fall victim to the request for money.
The men shared online dating profiles and used the names Benjamin D. Baker and Ryan Hull.
Police are still investigating.
