California signs a new landmark digital privacy law.
The law prevents a government entity from compelling businesses to turn over a client's electronic communication information or metadata without a warrant, other than defined exceptions.
Nicole Ozer, Technology & Civil Liberties Policy Director at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of California called the law “a landmark win.”
After months of pressure from public interest groups, media organizations, privacy advocates, tech companies, and thousands of members of the public, California’s elected leaders have updated the state’s privacy laws so that they are in line with how people actually use technology today.
These protections not only protect your devices but also your online storage.
