There have been 1.3 million new ransomware samples recorded this year, so far, according to McAfee.
One such ransomware producer and distributer is estimated to have made $121 million in ransomware payments during the first half of this year, netting $94 million after expenses.
"Ransomware has grown over the years, and in 2015 and 2016 we really saw a serious spike," said Vincent Weafer, vice president of Intel Security's McAfee Labs.
Mobile malware is also on the up rise. Total mobile malware grew 151 percent in the past year, with an estimated 2 million samples being found.
Companies with 5,000 or more employees see an average of 31 to 50 data loss incidents -- per day. Smaller companies with employees between 1,000 and 3,000 see an average of 11 to 20 data loss incidents per day. And the attacks are increasing.
