Dream Scenario - Free Software

Another beautiful day in Florida. I woke up and went to the Starbucks down the street and got whatever coffee I wanted for free; also one of those lemon cakes. Then I hopped in my 2015 Corvette Z06 I just grabbed at a local dealership yesterday, for free of course, and headed to work. I was going to take my Lamborghini that was free but I drove that yesterday. Then I remembered that I don’t work. Everything is free. Maybe a day at Disney World, also free, would be a lot of fun? Worst case scenario I could spend my day at the beach.
Then I woke up. How is it that the above scenario seems so ridiculous yet it’s exactly what people expect from their computers? Oddly enough your computer wasn’t free and last I checked Microsoft does not give away Windows either.
It’s always been my belief that using computers and the internet parallel real life but somehow people get on the internet and think it’s somehow different. It’s not.
I’m talking about “free” software. Free is in quotes because we now have Bundleware, free software bundled with third party software the developer uses to make money. We don’t love it, it’s become the new popup ad, but we are forced to deal with it.
Most people only need so much software for their computer. They seem willing to install (and often forget to uninstall) numerous programs to see what they like. Yet they don’t seem willing to look at shareware products that often times are better developed, fully featured and offer support. Antivirus is a great example. Two of the consistently best rated anti-virus programs are BitDefender and Kaspersky. Neither one is free but you’re getting the best.
Going to beach is free and a lot of fun and there is also a lot of free, fun and useful software out there. There are numerous choices for what you need and we encourage you to consider the shareware choices, especially for the main programs you need on your computer. We attempt to warn you, post portable versions when available (no installers) and offer only the best of the best shareware.
We hope you will consider supporting these authors as much as you can but we also understand that isn’t possible for everyone. In this case we spend the time to test, review and monitor only the absolute best choices in totally free, 5 star software. Simply find the category, read the reviews and pick the one you want without worry. This page can be found at http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/majorgeeks_top_freeware_picks.html.
