Stijn Victor, a 25-year old programmer, was arrested for selling Amphetamines on the dark web.
How did he get busted? He neglected to put enough postage on the packages.
Victor used local businesses as the return address and when one of the packages was returned to a computer shop, the owner opened it and found the drugs. He called authorities.
Victor had been arrested in 2013 and had his fingerprints taken at that time. Police were able to lift a fingerprint from the bag the amphetamines were contained in and matched it to Victor. He was subsequently arrested.
Authorities determined that he had made at least a total of 1,878 transactions. They suspect more transactions occurred but are unable to prove it. Victor had colleagues in the scheme who were also arrested.
At the time of the arrest, Victor was in possession of nearly 4,000 bitcoins. The market value is estimated at $3,000,000 dollars. He was ordered to forfeit 2,000 bitcoins. Prosecutors are demanding an additional 2,000.
Prosecutors are looking for a sentence of five years. The court will sentence him on December 2, 2016.
