Clothing store chain Eddie Bauer announced today that all 350 of its stores in North America have been breached by POS software. The breach seems to have been from the first six months of 2016.
Several sources that work on fighting fraud have received complains and during an investigation found that only one thing was in common..Eddie Bauer.
A spokesman for the company said that it hadn't heard any fraud complaints from banks or from the credit card associations.
However, Eddie Bauer backtracked today and said that the FBI and an outside computer forensics firm had found and removed card-stealing malware from cash registers at all of its locations in the United States and Canada.
“While not all transactions during this period were affected, out of an abundance of caution, Eddie Bauer is offering identity protection services to all customers who made purchases or returns during this period,” the company said.
Security personnel are advising breached companies to offer the cyber defenders of the world just a few details about the attack tools and online staging grounds the intruders used. That might help other companies in their fight to keep their system clean.
