Election Scam Asks for $50 to "Verify Your Vote"

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 10/25/2016 10:04 AM [ comments Comments ]

Criminals are acting on all the news about election fraud and sending out a fake notice from the CIA that requires people to send $50 or their upcoming vote will not count.

The malware installs the below image that is supposedly from the CIA and the FBI as an anti-cheat notice and it demands $50 to ensure your vote is counted.

If the victim actually pays the fee, the notice goes out to an email address of emilyrosefelt0@gmail.com. Once the payment is received, it connects to an http://textupload.com/d54g3 webpage and download the contents of the page. If the page contains the victims hardware ID, it will send a message and delete the fake notice.

Although it is obviously a scam, people will still tend to believe it and fall victim to the scam.
