Europol has designed a training program to help train participants to learn how to navigate the dark web with an eye to taking down cybercriminals.
According to a press release, the European Union law enforcement agency created its own private Darknet network. It also created its own cryptocurrency and simulated marketplace in order to recreate actual virtual dark web environments.
It is a five day course that puts its trainees in situations such as the role of vendors, buyers and administrators. It hopes to improve understanding of the Tor network hidden services, marketplaces and cryptocurrencies.
Live law enforcement take downs are part of the training plus penetration testing on marketplaces to determine if systems were vulnerable.
Australia, Finland, France and Japan, along with seven other countries, sent representatives for the training. Another iteration of the course will be held in November.
